Chelsea agree deal to sign Angelo Gabriel from Santos

Chelsea have agreed on a deal with Santos for 2004-born talent Angelo Gabriel for a €15 million fee.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have agreed to sign Brazilian youngster Angelo Gabriel. The Blues will pay Santos a €15 million fee for the 2004-born talent and likely to send him out on loan to gain experience.

Chelsea continues to manoeuvre through the transfer market by trying to create a solid squad for Mauricio Pochettino. Their sole focus remains on strengthening the first team after a raft of departures agreed upon in the opening two weeks of the window.

Hakim Ziyech, Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy have departed for Saudi Arabia. Kai Havertz will join Arsenal, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek gets closer to signing for AC Milan. There is a strong possibility of homegrown star Mason Mount leaving for Manchester United, and there will be others to walk through that exit door in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Chelsea agreed on a deal with Villarreal for striker Nicolas Jackson. They will also target Moises Caicedo and several other players after June 30, as the current focus remains on sales. With all the action happening at Stamford Bridge to strengthen the first-team squad, the Blues are also focused on building their future teams.

Since their takeover last year, Todd Boehly has taken a special interest in signing young, uncut gems from around the globe. They brought a raft of youngsters from everywhere, especially South America and the drive continues this summer.

Barcelona were keen on Angelo Gabriel, but Santos have now asked the Catalans to match Chelsea’s offer in the next 48 hours. The Spanish giants are ready to back out of the race, allowing Chelsea to complete the deal. The Premier League side plans to send the 18-year-old out on loan to gain valuable experience.

The youngster will certainly eye a spot in Chelsea’s first team but remains inexperienced for Pochettino’s liking. Hence, a loan deal would make sense for his career, and he might come back a stronger player to feature in the main squad.

He is not the only youngster signed by Chelsea recently after they finalised a move for Dujuan Richards from Jamaican side Phoenix All Stars. They had already agreed on a deal in March. But it will take a few years for the youngster to arrive in England owing to South American rules for players under 18.
