Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe, a target for Real Madrid.
According to a report by MARCA, Real Madrid are keen on signing Kylian Mbappe. But they will battle it out with Liverpool for his signature. And the Reds are ready to shatter their transfer record by shelling out $300 million to sign the 24-year-old French international.
Mbappe is one of the best players in the world, and it is no surprise that there is a fight for the services. But it seems highly unlikely that Liverpool will be able to compete with Real Madrid for his signature, despite what the report mentions.
The Reds are simply not in a position where they can afford the PSG superstar financially. On top of that, they will need to improve their squad significantly and need to bring in players in multiple positions. They cannot afford to spend all of their transfer budget on one player, especially in the attack. Nonetheless, the report claims Liverpool will offer a $300 million package for the player.
Liverpool have quality attackers at their disposal, and their focus should be on improving the midfield and the defence this summer. That said, Mbappe has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past as well. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few days.
The French international has entered the final year of his contract at PSG, and he has refused to sign an extension with them. He will be able to move on as a free agent next summer. Alternatively, he could also sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January.
The attacker was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid a few months ago. But he ended up signing a new contract with the French club. It appears that he is now angling for a move away from his homeland once again.
It is no secret that Real Madrid need to bring in attacking reinforcements. And Mbappe would be a sensational acquisition for them. Real Madrid recently parted ways with Karim Benzema. So they will have to replace his creativity and goals. Mbappe picked up 41 goals and 10 assists this past season.
The 24-year-old French international is capable of playing as the centre forward as well as the winger. He could improve the side immensely and fill the void left by his compatriot at Real Madrid.
But the World Cup winner has suggested he does not want to join Los Blancos this summer. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see how Liverpool’s emerging interest changes the equation. For now, it seems highly unlikely the Reds will shatter their club record by paying $300 million to beat Real Madrid to his signature.
