Jadon Sancho on Tottenham radar

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a blockbuster summer move for Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho as they look to rebuild their attack under new boss Ange Postecoglou.

Jadon Sancho could be on the move this summer, with Manchester United reportedly open to selling him. That is according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs (via GIVEMESPORT), who has also stated that Tottenham are keen on offering Sancho an escape route from Old Trafford if the player is available for a reasonable price.

Jacobs told GMS, “Sancho is not at the top of the list for Manchester United outgoings. But that’s not to say that, for the right price, they wouldn’t consider it. I think that right price is in excess of £50 million, and maybe even closer to £60 million, so that’s a consideration from Tottenham’s point of view.”

Sancho, who cost Manchester United a staggering £73 million from Borussia Dortmund just two years ago, has largely underwhelmed since his arrival at Old Trafford and has struggled to become a consistent member of the first team. He racked up 64 assists and 50 goals in 137 games for Dortmund. But his record for Manchester United now stands at just six assists and 12 goals in 79 games across all competitions.

With Euro 2024 on the horizon, the 23-year-old could be tempted to leave Manchester United and make a fresh start elsewhere. As per Daily Mail, the Red Devils need to balance their transfer budget, which currently stands at £120 million, according to FFP regulations. They also refused to match Chelsea’s £65 million valuation of Mason Mount for the same reason.

Manchester United are now looking to sell certain players to raise funds to bring in reinforcements. Donny van de Beek, Fred, and Anthony Elanga have all been put on the transfer list. None of these are particularly surprising, and Sancho follows suit.

It is claimed that Sancho won’t be forced out, and Manchester United are content to hold onto him alongside a couple of other squad players to stay and battle it out for starting spots. Yet, if Manchester United receive an offer of around £50–60 million, they would be open to cutting their losses on Sancho this summer.

The aforementioned price point is well within reach of Tottenham, who could come into the picture to rescue the former Dortmund star, having been credited with an interest in the versatile attacker earlier this month.

Spurs are in the market for a new winger this summer, with Lucas Moura and Arnaut Danjuma both gone. They could at least start with a more realistic £40 million plus add-ons bid for Sancho if, indeed, they are keen on signing the Manchester United attacker in the summer transfer window.

True, the 23-year-old has not been at his best at United and has struggled for form and fitness, but he was the star of the show at Dortmund. He is versatile enough to play on either flank, and even as a number 10. Ao Ange Postecoglou could see some definite value in landing him as a potential long-term replacement for Son Heung-min, who has been strongly linked with Saudi moves in recent times.
