Barcelona keen on finalising Ousmane Dembele agreement

Barcelona will look to secure the long-term future of Ousmane Dembele before the 2023/24 season, but his agent might delay an agreement.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Ousmane Dembele will likely commit his future to Barcelona. And the Catalan giants are desperate to seal the agreement soon due to the duration of his contract and his release clause, worth €50 million. But the French international’s agent wants to delay discussions over a new deal.

Ousmane Dembele has endured a rollercoaster ride in his stint with Barcelona thus far. The 26-year-old joined the Blaugrana half a dozen years ago as a potential replacement for Neymar. And he has eventually assumed the role after stumbling and frustrating fans and managers alike. In addition, he has worked hard to overcome his fitness issues.

Xavi Hernandez has brought the best out of the French international while getting rid of his attitude issues. And Dembele had a decent tally of eight goals and nine assists in 35 appearances across all competitions this past season. But the player’s long-term Barcelona future is uncertain as he will enter the final year of his contract this week.

However, despite the speculation surrounding the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, he remains committed to Barcelona. And recent reports have claimed that the Catalan giants have made good progress in discussions over a new deal. But the newly-crowned La Liga champions are concerned about two factors.

Dembele’s contract duration is the primary source of nerves, considering he can speak with foreign clubs in six months. In addition, the French international has a release clause worth €50 million in his contract. And such a valuation makes him an attractive prospect for potential suitors like Manchester United and Chelsea.

The good news for Barcelona is Dembele’s willingness to stay at Spotify Camp Nou. But his agent, Moussa Sissoko, wants to delay the agreement over a new deal for the foreseeable future. On the other hand, the Spanish champions want to finalise the new contract before the 2023/24 season begins.
