Real Madrid plot Arda Guler move, Barcelona rule out bid

Real Madrid will look to sign 18-year-old Turkish midfield sensation Arda Guler from Fenerbahce, but Barcelona will not pursue him.

According to Turkish journalist Volkan Demir, Arda Guler is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues want to sign the 18-year-old Fenerbahce midfield sensation in the summer transfer window before loaning him back for the 2023/24 season. Meanwhile, a separate report has revealed that he no longer features on Barcelona’s wishlist.

Arda Guler is one of the brightest young prospects in Europe. He has spent all his formative years thus far in his homeland, passing through the youth division at Genclerbirligi SK before joining Fenerbahce in February 2019. And after rapidly rising through the ranks at the Turkish club, he made his first-team debut in August 2021 as a 16-year-old.

The 19-year-old midfield sensation enjoyed a solid 2022/23 campaign, arguably his breakthrough season. Guler chipped in with six goals and seven assists in 35 appearances in all competitions. And the Turkish prodigy’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs. Real Madrid and Barcelona have been among his prospective suitors.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have been closely monitoring the teenage whizkid for a long time. And recent reports have suggested that the Catalan giants have held talks with Guler’s representatives. But Premier League clubs have also stepped up their efforts to sign the young midfielder this summer.

Recent reports have linked Guler with Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur. But Volkan Demir has claimed the 19-year-old midfield sensation dreams of joining Real Madrid. Meanwhile, the Merengues are ready to make their move for the player. And he will likely return to Fenerbahce on loan for the 2023/24 season.

But Guler wants to join a club where he can feature prominently from the get-go. And that will not happen at Real Madrid. However, loaning him back to Fenerbahce will aid his progress. Meanwhile, a report by Mundo Deportivo has claimed that Barcelona will not launch the offensive for the Turkish wonderkid.

With Barcelona ruling out a summer move for the 19-year-old, Real Madrid will have a relatively clearer run at Guler. But the interest from the Premier League clubs can complicate matters for Los Blancos. That said, with the teenage midfield sensation dreaming about joining Real Madrid, a summer move might be on the cards.
