Kovacic joined the Blues back in the summer of 2018 from Real Madrid. It was an initial loan move that was made permanent in the summer of 2019 on the back of impressive performances.

The Croatian international has been a great servant for the club and has helped them win quite a few trophies. However, his game time has taken a hit of late. With the Blues looking to build for the future, they are ready to offload the 29-year-old whose contract runs out in the summer of 2024.

With just a year left on his deal, letting him leave does make sense. As far as City are concerned, Pep Guardiola is a fan of the player and would love to have him in his ranks. Kovacic has great ball retention skills and will easily fit into their system.

With İlkay Gündoğan’s future uncertain, they are looking for a potential replacement and the 29-year-old can fill the big boots of the German international. City have placed a decent bid of £25 million and it will be interesting to see if Chelsea end up accepting it.
