Barcelona recently initiated contact with the entourage of 29-year-old Spanish midfielder Sergi Darder over a possible summer move.
According to a report by Bernard Soler, Sergi Darder is the subject of interest from Barcelona. And the Catalan giants have established contact with the Spanish midfielder’s entourage to explore the possibility of a move in the summer transfer window. The Espanyol player will be available for just €10 million following the club’s relegation from La Liga.
Sergi Darder cut his teeth in unheralded clubs before rising to prominence at Malaga at the onset of his professional career. And after three years with Lyon, he established himself as one of the best midfielders in his homeland during his ongoing stint with Espanyol. And while the Parakeets have dropped to the Segunda Division, the 29-year-old might remain in La Liga.
The Spanish midfielder has made nearly 250 appearances for Espanyol, chipping in with 25 goals and 25 assists. And Darder is available for just €10 million following Espanyol’s relegation from La Liga at the end of the 2022/23 season. Meanwhile, the latest update has captured the attention of fellow Catalan club Barcelona.
The newly-crowned La Liga champions are desperately scouring the market for a replacement for Sergio Busquets. The veteran midfielder has called time on his illustrious stint with Barcelona. And his departure has left a gaping hole in the midfield unit, even though his performances were no longer consistently elite.
Several midfielders have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar, including Sofyan Amrabat. But the latest reports suggest the Moroccan international will likely join Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window. So Barcelona might have to realign midfield targets, with Darder emerging as an option.
The 29-year-old Spanish midfielder is at the peak of his powers while being well-settled in La Liga. And at €10 million, he will be a low-cost solution to Barcelona’s requirements. Meanwhile, the Catalan giants have initiated contact with his representatives to explore the possibility of a summer move.
