Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on acquiring the services of Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.
According to Football Insider, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in having David Raya in their ranks. The Brentford shot-stoppers’ future has been uncertain for a while now and there is a lot of interest in his services.
Raya had an exceptional 2022-23 season where he kept 12 clean sheets in his 38 Premier League outings. And, his consistent performances have attracted a lot of attention.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper is on the radar of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. The Blues are not happy with Kepa Arrizabalaga and Édouard Mendy. Both of them have been inconsistent and Mauricio Pochettino wants to sort out the goalkeeping situation by signing David Raya.
However, he will face tough competition for the services of the Spain international whose contract runs out in the summer of 2024. With only a year left in his contract and the player keen on joining a bigger club, the Bees don’t really have many options to work with.
While Brentford are looking for a fee close to £40 million, United and Spurs are looking to lower the asking price and strike a bargain deal for the 27-year-old. Both the clubs are aware that the Bees can’t risk losing Raya for free next season, as a result, want the fee lowered.
Brentford have already signed a replacement in Freiburg shot-stopper Mark Flekken. With the replacement sorted, it is almost certain that the Spain international will be on the move in the summer.
However, with United and Spurs both ready to go all the way, it will be interesting to see who wins the race for the 27-year-old. The Red Devils are looking for a potential replacement for David de Gea whose contract runs out in under two weeks and is yet to pen down a new deal.
Meanwhile, Spurs are looking to replace Hugo Lloris. The 36-year-old Frenchman is well past his prime and he has been on the decline of late. Even Lloris has expressed his desire of leaving the club in the summer. And, Tottenham believe Raya could be their new number one heading into next season.
