Chelsea are all set to submit an improved offer as they look to acquire the services of 22-year-old Sporting CP midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

According to Record via Sport Witness, Chelsea are keen on acquiring the services of Manuel Ugarte. The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has been in sensational form of late, and there are quite a few clubs interested in him.

Ugarte joined the Portuguese club back in the summer of 2021. He has gone from strength to strength since joining Sporting CP. As far as the ongoing season is concerned, the 22-year-old has been on the pitch for over 3,500 minutes in his 47 appearances.

His performances have attracted a lot of attention over the past few months. And, of late Chelsea have been pushing hard to land him at the club. While Ugarte’s contract with Sporting runs until the summer of 2026, the 22-year-old is expected to be on the move in the 2023 summer window given the amount of interest in his services.

There is a €60 million release clause in his contract that could see him join a bigger club ahead of next season. Meanwhile, Chelsea are one of the clubs keen on acquiring the services of the Uruguayan international.

The Blues are on the look for a new defensive midfielder. They want to acquire someone who can provide cover for N’Golo Kante who has struggled with injuries of late. And, eventually, take over from the French World Cup winner. Ugrate fits the bill perfectly, as a result, the Blues are ready to spend a fortune to land him at the club.

However, they are not the only club ready to pay the release clause. Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the 22-year-old. With both Chelsea and PSG ready to pay €60 million, it will all come down to the salary.

At this point in time, PSG have offered him better wages than the Blues. The French club are willing to offer him €5 million a year while Chelsea’s initial offer was €2 million a year. The Blues do not want to risk losing out on him. As a result, they have informed the player’s agent’s that they are ready to make a new offer to convince the player.

They are willing to offer a wage of €3.5 million plus add-ons that will be based on personal as well as the team’s success. With Chelsea set to put forward a new improved contract offer for the services of the 22-year-old, it will be interesting to see if they can win the race for his signatures.
