Real Madrid will ramp up the efforts to sign Joselu in the summer transfer window, with the move advancing after Espanyol’s relegation.
According to Spanish journalist Sergio Santos, Joselu is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues view the Spanish international as a replacement for the exit-bound Mariano Diaz. And they are advancing the move for the striker following Espanyol’s relegation to the Segunda Division.
Joselu has found a stable footing since returning to Spain from England nearly four years ago. The 33-year-old a former member of the Real Madrid Castilla side, first saw his stock rising at Alaves. And he has raised his performance levels this season despite Espanyol’s struggles throughout the campaign.
The Spanish international, who made his debut for La Roja at the ripe old age of 32, has been top-class this term. And he has 17 goals and four assists in 37 appearances across all competitions this season. But Joselu’s stint with Espanyol will likely end after only one year following the Catalan club’s relegation. And Real Madrid will look to secure his services this summer.
Real Madrid might have to sign two strikers in the summer transfer window. Reports for several months have suggested that Mariano Diaz will leave Real Madrid this year to resurrect his career. But this week has brought a bombshell, with Karim Benzema reportedly considering moving to Saudi Arabia.
As far as Mariano’s replacement is concerned, Joselu has emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid. While the Spanish international is well into his thirties, he seems to be a late bloomer and might be a solid short-term solution. And the Merengues are ramping up their efforts to sign the experienced striker.
With Espanyol officially going down to the Segunda Division at the end of the season, several top players will leave. And Joselu’s departure is likely, with Real Madrid advancing the move to sign the 33-year-old. So the stars are aligning well for the player this summer.
