Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly looking to sign Levi Colwill permanently from Chelsea at the end of the season.
According to a report from Football Insider, Levi Colwill has impressed during his loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion. And the Seagulls are hoping to make his move permanent at the end of the season. They have already planned talks with his parent club Chelsea.
Colwill is one of the most talented young defenders in the Premier League right now, and signing him permanently would be a major coup for Brighton. However, Chelsea might not be open to the idea. The Blues are in need of defensive reinforcements, and the 20-year-old could be a key player for them in the coming seasons.
Chelsea signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli last summer. But the experienced central defender has not been able to make the desired impact in the Premier League. The player has already been linked with a summer move away from Stamford Bridge. So Chelsea might have to replace him adequately. Colwill could prove to be a superb option.
The 20-year-old has shown that he is good enough to play for top Premier League clubs, and he has helped Brighton secure European qualification this season. The youngster will seek regular playing time. And if Chelsea can provide him with game-time assurances, there is no reason why the defender would want to leave the Blues in the coming weeks.
Chelsea are certainly a much bigger club compared to Brighton, and they will be expected to compete for major trophies next season. It has been a disappointing campaign for them, and they are in the bottom half of the table. But they have a top-class squad capable of fighting towards the top of the table.
Chelsea have spent significant sums of money since the arrival of the new owners, and they will be looking to deliver on the pitch now. They have been quite vulnerable defensively, and the arrival of Colwill next season will certainly help them improve.

The 20-year-old will look to establish himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and Chelsea could certainly provide me with that platform. Furthermore, competing at the highest level with Chelsea could help Colwill establish himself as an important player for the England national team as well. It will be interesting to see if Brighton can convince the Blues to sell the talented young defender this summer but it seems highly unlikely.
