Aston Villa continue to be linked with Villarreal defender Pau Torres, also a target for Tottenham, whose price tag is £55 million.
Pau Torres has been a key player for Villarreal in recent seasons, and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for the West Midlands club. Rudy Galetti has now revealed to Give Me Sport that Aston Villa are now looking to ramp up their efforts to sign the Spanish defender at the end of the season.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Galetti said, “The interest of Aston Villa in Pau Torres is concrete and the English club could soon speed up things for him, considering the fierce competition.
“The Spanish player, whose contract will expire in 2024, in fact, is also followed by some teams in Europe, including Tottenham and Juventus, even if the non-football situation forced the Bianconeri at the moment to put all their evaluation on the market on hold.”
Aston Villa have shown tremendous improvement under Unai Emery, and they will be looking to take the next step in their development. They are currently pushing for European qualification and will be looking to build on that next year. They could certainly use quality reinforcements at the back. And signing a centre-back would help them improve further.
Torres would be an upgrade on Tyrone Mings, and he could form a quality partnership with Ezri Konsa at the heart of Villa’s defence. Unai Emery has always rated the 26-year-old Spanish defender highly, having worked with him at Villarreal. The Spanish manager has always been vocal about his admiration for Torres, and the player could be keen on a reunion in the Premier League.
Apparently, clubs like Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on the defender as well. So it remains to be seen whether Aston Villa can move swiftly and secure his services. Tottenham need a reliable partner for Cristian Romero, and the Spaniard could prove to be an excellent option.
Aston Villa have certainly have the financial resources to pull off a big-money signing, and Torres would be quite a coup for them. The 26-year-old is at the peak of his powers right now and he could make an immediate impact at Villa Park next season.
He has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past as well, and he certainly has the technical ability and quality to thrive in English football. His £55 million price tag should not turn his suitors off either.
Unai Emery has been an ambitious manager at every club, and he will be hoping to guide the West Midlands club to a trophy soon. Players like Torres will certainly elevate the quality of the Aston Villa squad and make them capable of challenging for trophies in the coming seasons.
The 26-year-old is likely to be tempted if there is a concrete proposal on the table in the coming weeks. He has already proven himself in La Liga. And the opportunity to showcase his qualities in the Premier League could prove to be hard to turn down.
