Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle it out for the services of 30-year-old midfielder Marco Verratti.
According to Fichajes, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in acquiring the services of Marco Verratti. The 30-year-old is likely to part ways with Paris Saint-Germain, and numerous clubs from across Europe are interested in having him in their ranks.
Verratti joined PSG back in the summer of 2012. He has gone from strength to strength over the years. The Italian midfielder has featured in over 410 matches during his time at the club. He also has 72 goal contributions to his name. Meanwhile, his market value stands at around €50 million.
As far as the ongoing season is concerned, the Italian international has featured in 34 matches for the French club. He has been a mainstay for them in the centre of the park. And while Verratti has done his bit, PSG have not lived up to the expectations as a group.
The 30-year-old has been a great servant of the club for over a decade. But it seems his time at PSG will end in the summer. Verratti is unsure about the club’s project, in short, he does not trust the project at hand. And, the criticism from the fans has not helped either.
While his contract at the club runs until the summer of 2026, the Italian midfielder is likely to part ways with the club in the upcoming transfer window. And, Manchester United as well as Tottenham Hotspur are keen on having him in their ranks.
Erik ten Hag is looking to further strengthen his team. The Dutch manager has identified a few key areas that need strengthening. And, the midfield is one of them. Ten Hag is desperate to have a new world-class midfielder who can pair up with Casemiro in the centre of the park for Manchester United.
Verratti is on his radar as the Italian can directly slot into that position and can easily adapt to the Dutch manager’s style of play. However, Manchester United are not alone in the race and they will face tough competition from Spurs.
Tottenham are looking to bolster their squad ahead of next season. Their priority is to strengthen their midfield. They are keen on having the 30-year-old midfielder in their ranks and are willing to go the distance to acquire his services.
