Manchester United want Romeo Lavia as Casemiro replacement

Manchester United want to sign Romeo Lavia as a long-term successor to Casemiro, with the Southampton star available in the summer.

According to The Independent, Manchester United view Romeo Lavia as a long-term successor to Casemiro. The 19-year-old Premier League talent has attracted plenty of interest, and Erik ten Hag may have to move fast to secure the Southampton midfielder before rivals.

Manchester United dropped more points in their quest to cement a top-four place in the Premier League. With only a handful of games left, there is still plenty of work for Erik ten Hag to secure Champions League football next season.

While the fans wait to see how that race transpires, the Red Devils are already planning on strengthening their squad for next season. Ten Hag wants to reinforce several areas of his side, including the attack and midfield.

The central midfield area has provided mixed results this season for Manchester United. Casemiro’s arrival certainly brought about some much-needed steel in the area, but many visible gaps exist. Moreover, the Brazilian is not a long-term option for the club, meaning they could look for a successor right away.

Who they might sign there remains the question, but Romeo Lavia’s name has been mentioned repeatedly. The 19-year-old Premier League talent could suffer relegation with Southampton in May, opening the doors for a transfer.

Considering his talent and market value, Southampton could sell him regardless of their future. A host of clubs are keen on signing the 19-year-old Premier League talent, with Arsenal and Chelsea also in the race alongside Manchester United.

Chelsea are ready to step up their chase, while Arsenal are also considering moving. The Gunners have Declan Rice as their primary target and will only move for Lavia if they face blocks in the chase for the West Ham United captain.

Hence, with many top clubs keen and Lavia eager to further his career, Manchester United must move fast in securing the Belgian. The 19-year-old Premier League talent has a profile that would suit Ten Hag’s requirements. But much will depend on what Southampton demand.

Manchester City have a £40 million buy-back clause, which only activates in 2024. Hence, Southampton could cash in in the next window and hope to get a better value. Manchester United will hope to wrap up the deal on priority as they view the 19-year-old Premier League talent as a long-term replacement for Casemiro.
