Newcastle United are interested in acquiring the services of 30-year-old Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.
According to Alex Crook via GiveMeSport, Newcastle United want to sign Harry Maguire in the summer. The 30-year-old centre-back has fallen down the pecking order at United and is likely to move in the summer. And, the Magpies are keen on having him in their ranks.
Crook said: “I know there’s some interest from Newcastle, West Ham as well. I think, probably, they would be good moves for him. I think it’s best for all concerned that he moves on.”
Maguire came into the limelight while playing for Leicester City. His performances attracted the attention of the Red Devils who acquired his services for a record fee of around £80 million. The England international was the mainstay of their defence for years and he was even made the club captain.
While he is still their skipper, the 30-year-old is no longer a regular in their starting XI. Maguire has featured in 172 matches for Manchester United during his time at the club. And, he has been involved in 12 goals.
Ever since Erik ten Hag took charge of the club in the summer, the Red Devils have done wonders on the pitch. Meanwhile, Maguire’s game time has suffered. The Dutch manager prefers having Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as his first-choice centre-backs.
At times, he has even preferred playing full-back Luke Shaw at the heart of the defence ahead of the England international. With Maguire no longer a regular, he is likely to part ways with the club in the summer. As per reports, he has been told that he could leave the club in the upcoming transfer window. Meanwhile, Newcastle United are interested in signing him.
They have been monitoring the England international for a while now. And, Newcastle could push for his services in the summer. The Magpies want to add more depth to their defence. They want to have quality options they can rotate with. And, Newcastle believe he could bolster their squad.
However, it will be interesting to see how much they will have to spend to land the 30-year-old at their club. And, there are a few other clubs who push them all the way for the signature of the Manchester United captain.
