Liverpool approve contract offer for Mason Mount

Liverpool have been linked to the move for 24-year-old Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount in recent months.

Mason Mount is yet to sign a contract extension with Chelsea, and he has been linked with an exit in the coming months. A report from Football Insider claims that Liverpool have now approved a lucrative contract for the England international. And it remains to be seen whether they can secure an agreement with the player.

Mount will be entering the final year of his contract in the summer and Chelsea could be under pressure to cash in on the player if he refuses to sign a new deal. The Blues will not want to lose the player on a free transfer next summer.

The West London club have spent significant sums of money in recent months, and they will need to balance the books in the summer. Selling Mount could fetch a substantial amount of money for them and balance their books amid the threat of Financial Fair Play sanctions.

The 24-year-old has not been at his best this season. But he remains one of the best midfielders at the club. His departure would certainly come as a blow for Chelsea, and it would weaken the squad.

Mount has proven himself in the Premier League over the years, and he could prove to be a solid signing for Liverpool. Working with a manager like Jurgen Klopp could help the England international develop further and fulfil his tremendous potential.

Liverpool have lacked creativity and goals from the middle of the park, and Mount would be an upgrade on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is expected to move on at the end of the season when his contract expires. The Chelsea midfielder is well-settled in the Premier League and could make an immediate impact at Anfield.

Chelsea will probably be unwilling to sanction his departure to a direct rival. But they will be under pressure because of his contract situation. Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that they are ready to compromise to agree a renewal. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can convince the Blues to sell the player with a lucrative proposal in the summer.

There have been rumours that Mount is open to signing a new deal with Chelsea. But they would have to agree to his wage demands. Apparently, the 24-year-old midfielder wants a significant pay rise and Chelsea are unwilling to offer him that kind of money.
