West Ham United are reportedly well-positioned in the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres, also a transfer target for Crystal Palace and Fulham.
According to Football Insider, Premier League strugglers West Ham United are looking to steal the march on Crystal Palace and Fulham in the chase of Coventry hitman Viktor Gyokeres by lining up tempting personal terms for the player.
Gyokeres is drawing admiring glances from a host of Premier League clubs after plundering 19 goals in 39 appearances this season, making him the Championship’s second-highest scorer. With a record of 37 goals in 86 games since joining the Sky Blues, he has proven himself in the Championship over the past couple of years and is ready to make the step up.
Coventry will be reluctant to part ways with the striker but will be unable to turn down a lucrative deal given his contract is set to expire in 2024. To that end, they will hope a potential bidding war between Crystal Palace, West Ham, and fellow suitor Fulham could drive up his asking price.
They are reportedly looking for a fee in the region of £20 million to £25 million fee for the 24-year-old. And that fee appears well within the price range of the Premier League trio. However, the chase is seemingly being led by West Ham, with Moyes personally scouting the player.
The Hammers are ready to push the boat out in terms of offering the player a premium financial package to make the move to East London if they stay up in the English top flight this season. The Irons finished sixth and seventh in the previous two campaigns, with their fall from grace coming as something of a surprise.
And, after spending plenty of money over the summer, much more was anticipated from Moyes’s team. Their biggest problem this season has undoubtedly been scoring goals. As a consequence, it is no wonder that Gianluca Scamacca has been linked to a return to Serie A, while Michail Antonio could also be on his way out, with Moyes planning an overhaul in the striker department.
The Hammers are though not the only team dubbed as a potential Premier League suitor for the in-form Swedish striker. Like West Ham, Crystal Palace will be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements over the summer after their struggles in front of goal this season.
Wilfried Zaha currently leads the way in terms of goals, netting six times in all competitions, with Odsonne Edouard just behind with five. With Crystal Palace flirting with the relegation zone, co-owner Stephen Parish will be looking to avoid the drop while also aiming to steer clear of a similar situation unfolding next season by bringing in some additional firepower over the summer.
In contrast, Fulham are having a fine season under Marco Silva, with their star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic firing on all cylinders when fit and under control of his temper. But the Serb recently emerged on the radar of Manchester United.
This is not the first time the Cottagers have been touted with a swoop for Gyokeres. Fulham saw their initial bid rejected by the Championship outfit in January. They are now plotting to make another approach for the Sweden international in the summer, with Silva keen to further bolster his striker options.
