Chelsea prepared to cash in on Mason Mount

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to sell Mason Mount, a target for Liverpool and Manchester United, at the end of the season.

According to a report from Football Insider, Chelsea have now made the decision to cash in on 24-year-old England international Mason Mount after failing to agree on a new deal with him. The two parties have been locked in talks regarding a contract extension. But the discussions have now collapsed, and Chelsea are prepared to part ways with the midfielder.

The likes of Liverpool and Manchester United are thought to be keen on signing Mount at the end of the season. And it remains to be seen where he ends up. The Chelsea academy graduate has been a key player for the Blues over the last few seasons. And his departure will certainly come as a blow for them.

Mount is only 24 and is likely to improve further with coaching and experience. The talented England international has had a dismal campaign so far. But his pedigree is beyond doubt, and he has all the attributes to develop into a top-class Premier League star.

Liverpool could certainly use someone like him, especially with players like Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set to leave as free agents. Jurgen Klopp wants Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham in his squad as well. But Mount is likely to be a cheaper alternative.

Meanwhile, Manchester United need to add more depth and creativity to the midfield as well. They will need to find an upgrade on players like Scott McTominay. Furthermore, Christian Eriksen is entering his twilight years, and Erik ten Hag needs to bring in a midfielder who will add creativity and goals to the side in the long term.

Mount would be a sensational acquisition for both Liverpool and Manchester United. It will be interesting to see if the two Premier League clubs can agree on a reasonable fee with Chelsea in the coming months now.

Mount will be a free agent in the summer of 2024, and he will have just 12 months left on his deal at the end of the season. The two clubs will be hoping to sign him for a knockdown price. Managers like Klopp and ten Hag could help the young Chelsea star improve further and fulfil his world-class potential.

Mount is versatile enough to play in a number of positions in the middle of the park. And his versatility will be an added bonus for both clubs. But with Chelsea preparing to cash in on the 24-year-old, more clubs might soon join Liverpool and Manchester United in the chase.
