Premier League leaders Arsenal will continue contract renewal talks with 23-year-old winger Reiss Nelson.
According to a report by 90min, Arsenal will continue talks with Reiss Nelson over a new contract. The 23-year-old will be out of contract in the summer. And, the Gunners are keen on penning down a new deal with the England Under-21 star.
Nelson stole the show with a 97th-minute winner against Bournemouth on Saturday. The Gunners were 2-0 down and were all set to suffer a big setback in their quest for the Premier League title. But, they managed to bounce back, and the 23-year-old scored the winner in their 3-2 comeback win.
The Englishman has been a part of the north London club since childhood days. He has gone up the ranks at the club. He was promoted to Arsenal’s first team back in the summer of 2019. But, after two frustrating years where he hardly managed any game time for the first team, the 23-year-old was sent out on loan to Feyenoord.
Nelson returned to his parent club ahead of the ongoing season. Since returning, he has managed to break into the first team. And, he has played an integral part in their quest for the Premier League title. The 23-year-old winger has impressed Mikel Arteta in the limited game time, and the Spanish manager considers him an important part of his setup.
His contract ends in the summer. And amid a lot of interest from across Europe, the Gunners are keen on renewing his contract as soon as possible. But, they have not managed to get a breakthrough yet. However, they will continue the talks and are not willing to give up on the English winger.
The 23-year-old has featured in three league matches this season and has five goal contributions. He has had very limited game time but has done wonders for the club on the pitch. Nelson wants more game time under his belt and might look for options elsewhere if the Gunners cannot promise him more minutes.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are on a dream run in the ongoing season. They are leading the English top-flight title race with 63 points out of their 26 matches. The Gunners are on course to win their first Premier League title since 2004.
Arteta will look to further strengthen his squad in the summer, with Declan Rice among the targets. And, Nelson is a part of the Spanish manager’s plan. But it will be interesting to see if they manage to strike a deal given the interest from London clubs Brentford, Crystal Palace, and West Ham amongst others.
