Tottenham can keep Harry Kane by signing James Ward-Prowse

Tottenham Hotspur have been urged to sign Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse at the end of the season to keep Harry Kane.

James Ward-Prowse is unlikely to play in the Championship if Southampton are relegated and he would prefer to stay in the Premier League. Darren Ambrose from talkSPORT has now told Tottenham to provide him with an exit route at the end of the season. In doing so, they can keep hold of Harry Kane. Meanwhile, the Saints will demand £50 million for him.

Tottenham need to add creativity to the side, and the 28-year-old would certainly add more quality in that department. Ward-Prowse is an excellent passer, and he is lethal from direct free-kicks as well. His arrival would add a new dimension to the Spurs attack. So the interest in the English midfielder makes sense.

Antonio Conte clearly realises the need for a midfielder who will help create chances and add goals to the side. That is why Spurs were linked with Nicolo Zaniolo and Christian Eriksen in the last couple of windows. They have been linked with Julian Brandt as well recently.

Ward-Prowse is a Premier League-proven midfielder who could make an immediate impact at the London club next season. His arrival will benefit players like Harry Kane immensely. The 29-year-old striker has had to drop deep quite often this season to help create chances. And someone like Ward-Prowse would shoulder the creative responsibilities and let Kane focus on his goalscoring.

Kane has been linked with a move away from Tottenham in the summer. And it remains to be seen whether the Londoners can convince him to pen an extension with them. Ambrose believes that a signing like Ward-Prowse could convince the striker to stay at Spurs beyond this season.

Ambrose feels that the Southampton captain would help Kane score more goals with his creativity. He added that Spurs should sign the player for £50 million at the end of the season.

He said, “I’d take him at Spurs for £50m. I think he’s the perfect player that Spurs need that goes from defence to attack. And he can be that link to the play and I think you’ve got the players that will do the dirty work – the dog work – in terms of [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg and [Oliver] Skipp and players like that. I think he’s fantastic. Listen, you sign James Ward-Prowse, Harry Kane stays. That’s an extra ten goals a season for him with his deliveries.”

It remains to be seen whether Southampton are prepared to sell their captain in the summer. That said, it is fair to assume that they won’t stand in his way if they are relegated from the Premier League. The 28-year-old has been a loyal servant and deserves a step up in his career now.
