Arsenal keen on Raheem Sterling

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling, who has struggled since his £47.5 million summer move.

Raheem Sterling joined Chelsea at the start of the season in a £47.5 million move. But he has failed to live up to the expectations so far. A report from 90min claims that Arsenal are prepared to make a move for the 28-year-old at the end of the season.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has worked with the England international during their time together at Manchester City. And the Gunners’ boss is a huge fan of Sterling. Furthermore, Sterling has publicly expressed his admiration for the Arsenal manager in the past as well.

The Gunners will have to put together a deeper squad in order to compete across different competitions next season and sterling could prove to be a useful acquisition. Chelsea signed the player for £47.5 million from the Premier League champions at the start of the season. But Sterling has contributed to just 6 goals and 3 assists across all competitions.

The former Manchester City and Liverpool winger was expected to hit the ground running and transform Chelsea in the final third. Things have clearly not gone according to the plan for the 28-year-old at Stamford Bridge. And it remains to be seen whether he is prepared to pursue a different challenge in the summer.

He could be a quality fit for Arsenal who need to add more depth in the wide areas. Arsenal have been overly reliant on Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka as their wingers. And they will need to bring in more cover for the two players.

Sterling could be a useful option with his versatility, ability and experience. Sterling is versatile enough to play anywhere across the front tree and you would be a good fit for Mikel Arteta’s attacking unit. Meanwhile, the Gunners have also shown interest in Lucas Paqueta.

As for Sterling, the 28-year-old has a long-term contract at Chelsea and the Blues will be hoping to recoup what they paid for him at the start of the season. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal are prepared to break the bank and secure his services.
