West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.
Scott McTominay has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and he needs to leave the club in order to play regularly. As per Football Insider, West Ham United are ready to offer the 26-year-old Manchester United midfielder an escape route.
McTominay is clearly not good enough to start for a club like Manchester United, who are hoping to challenge for the Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League in the coming seasons. However, the 26-year-old remains a very useful player and could prove to be a quality acquisition for most Premier League clubs.
West Ham could lose Declan Rice at the end of the season. And McTominay could be a quality replacement. The Scottish international will be determined to prove himself in the Premier League. And the opportunity to play for West Ham could be an exciting option for him.
He is unlikely to get regular game time at Old Trafford in the coming seasons. And moving away would be ideal for him. Manchester United reportedly value him at £25 million. And a club with West Ham’s resources should be able to afford that.
Furthermore, the Hammers will have plenty of funds at their disposal if they sell Declan Rice in the summer. The England international wants to join a big club, and West Ham will be under pressure to sell him because of his contract situation. The 24-year-old has a contract with the London club until the summer of 2024.
Meanwhile, McTominay is not the only Manchester United midfielder linked with the move away from the club at the end of the season. Fred could be on his way out of Old Trafford as well. It seems that Manchester United are looking to bring in quality alternatives in the middle of the park. And it remains to be seen who they end up signing.
McTominay has been a useful squad player for Manchester United. But the time is right for both parties to go separate ways. He has the quality to establish himself as a reliable Premier League midfielder, and West Ham could provide him with the platform to do so.
Meanwhile, the Hammers must ensure that they preserve their status as a Premier League club. The 26-year-old midfielder is unlikely to move to the EFL Championship at the end of the season. West Ham are currently embroiled in a relegation battle. And David Moyes will be desperate to guide them to safety in the coming months.
A club of West Ham’s stature are expected to finish in the top half. And it remains to be seen whether they can turn things around and finish the season on a high. Meanwhile, West Ham have also shown interest in other Manchester United players, including Anthony Martial.
