Chelsea have reportedly agreed on a deal to sign Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Benfica and Chelsea are finally reached an agreement for Enzo Fernandez. And the 22-year-old Argentine international is set to travel to London in order to finalise the transfer.
Apparently, the two clubs are now looking to get the documents signed before the transfer window closes.
The Blues have been trying to sign the 22-year-old midfielder since the start of the month. But they have not been able to reach an agreement with Benfica. Apparently, the Portuguese outfit were holding out for the player’s release clause to be paid in full.
Enzo Fernandez has a €120 million release clause in his contract, and it seems that the Blues have finally managed to convince the Portuguese outfit to part with his services.
Romano’s tweet does not confirm whether the Blues have agreed to pay the release clause in full but the two parties have managed to reach a common ground and the player will now head to the Premier League.

The 22-year-old has been an instant hit since his move to Benfica and he has four goals and seven assists across all competitions. Furthermore, he was the best young player in the recently concluded World Cup and he helped Argentina win the tournament.
Fernandez has all the attributes to develop into a world-class midfielder and it remains to be seen whether he can hit the ground running in the Premier League. Chelsea recently sold midfielder Jorginho to rivals Arsenal, and the 22-year-old Argentine international is expected to replace the Italian international at the club.
The Blues have had a disappointing first half of the season and they will be hoping to close in on the top four now. Signings like Enzo Fernandez will certainly help them improve during the second half of the season and it remains to be seen whether Graham Potter can guide his side to Champions League qualification now.
Chelsea manager Graham Potter has done well to nurture talented young players throughout his managerial career and he will look to have a positive impact on the development of Fernandez as well. It remains to be seen whether the 22-year-old can continue his development with regular football at Stamford Bridge and fulfil his world-class potential in the coming seasons.
