La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring 19-year-old Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund, also known as the “next Haaland”.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Rasmus Hojlund is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are keeping tabs on the progress of the 19-year-old striker at Serie A club Atalanta.
Rasmus Hojlund spent his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies at nearly half a dozen clubs. He finally found a stable footing at FC Copenhagen before joining SK Sturm Graz in January 2022. But the Danish striker’s stint with the Austrian club ended last summer when he joined Atalanta. And he has established himself as one of the best young strikers in Serie A.
The 19-year-old has made 16 appearances thus far for Atalanta, amassing five goals and two assists. The tally might not appear impressive. But Hojlund has raked in those numbers in just 758 minutes of game time. And the player’s progress has captured the attention of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid will see Endrick arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu in 18 months. But with Mariano Diaz facing an uncertain future, Los Blancos might enter the market for a striker in the summer. That is because Karim Benzema has faced a few fitness issues in the ongoing campaign. So Real Madrid will need an alternative for the veteran French forward.
Recent reports have thus linked Real Madrid with several strikers, including Dusan Vlahovic. And Rasmus Hojlund is also an attractive target for the reigning La Liga champions. At 19, he can initially learn the ropes from Benzema while filling in whenever the Frenchman is unavailable.
Hojlund dubbed the “next Haaland”, can then compete with Endrick in the coming years. So pursuing the teenage prodigy should keep Real Madrid in good stead. But Atalanta might demand a premium for Hojlund, considering he only joined the Serie A outfit last summer.
So it will be interesting to see if a move sees the light of day for Real Madrid. For now, 19-year-old Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund is channeling his inner Erling Haaland and has emerged on Los Blancos’ radar.
