Hector Bellerin has snubbed an offer from Premier League mainstay Everton as he wants to remain with Barcelona this month.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Hector Bellerin does not want to return to the Premier League this month. And he has turned down an approach from Everton over a January move. But the Spaniard will likely leave Barcelona as a free agent in the summer transfer window.
Hector Bellerin was once one of the best young full-backs in the Premier League. His pace and mazy runs made him a hard man to track, and he went from strength to strength at Arsenal. But a few injuries hampered the 27-year-old before he fell down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta.
The Spanish international enjoyed a decent loan stint with Real Betis before returning to Arsenal. But the player did not wish to continue his stint with the Gunners and rejoined Barcelona on deadline day in the summer transfer window. However, Bellerin’s spell at Spotify Camp Nou has been disastrous thus far.
Xavi Hernandez has preferred makeshift options over the Spaniard for the right-back spot. And even Alejandro Balde, a left-back, has played ahead of Bellerin a few times for Barcelona. The former Arsenal full-back has managed only 494 minutes of game time across seven appearances for Barcelona.
Widespread reports heading into the January transfer window suggested Bellerin might leave this month. And he had emerged on the radar of AS Roma before the Giallorossi cooled interest in him. But the struggling Barcelona defender continues to court interest, particularly from the Premier League.
Recent reports linked Fulham with the 27-year-old, with Everton now joining the race to sign him. The Toffees have been Premier League mainstays but are struggling to hold their own this season. Relegation is a possibility, and with Nathan Patterson out injured, Everton will need to sign a right-back. And the Merseyside outfit even submitted an offer to sign the Barcelona defender.
But Bellerin does not want to leave Barcelona this month, let alone return to the Premier League. While his departure as a free agent in the summer seems highly likely, he is not going anywhere in January. So Everton will need to look elsewhere to bolster Frank Lampard’s right-back options.
