Tottenham have held talks for Pedro Porro in the last 24 hours

Tottenham have held talks with Sporting CP to find an agreement for Pedro Porro, but the situation remains complicated.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news of discussions taking place between Tottenham and Sporting CP for Pedro Porro. The 23-year-old defender is an important target for Antonio Conte in this window. So far, Spurs have shown reluctance to pay his €45 million release clause.

Tottenham remain open to bolstering their squad before the January window ends. The transfer period is halfway through its course, but clubs have plenty of time to conduct important business. Spurs are on the hunt for players in a few key positions, with the right wing-back role considered essential by Antonio Conte.

Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have underwhelmed this season. The Brazilian was recently dropped for the Irishman. They also have a third option in Djed Spence, who signed in the summer for decent money from Middlesbrough. Conte is yet to trust the young Englishman while entering the market for a new player in the position.

Pedro Porro of Sporting CP is Conte’s primary wing-back target in this window. The 23-year-old defender has mostly played in a right midfield position for the Portuguese side this season. At Tottenham, they want him for a wide defensive role.

He is reportedly open to joining Spurs and could agree on personal terms if talks between the two clubs progress. Tottenham and Sporting have held fresh talks to find an agreement for the 23-year-old defender. As Fabrizio Romano states, it’s up to the two parties to get a deal done.

Sporting have maintained their stance and demanded Spurs pay Porro’s €45 million release clause to sign him. Tottenham is not open to spending so much while also wanting to structure payments rather than paying the entire fee upfront.

Recently they may have looked away from a deal and even explored other ideas. They were also linked with Denzel Dumfries, whose agent is reportedly in London to discuss a possible move with Tottenham and Chelsea. But it may appear they are back in the hunt for Porro, as Conte wants a deal concluded.

Porro would prove ideal for Tottenham’s style under Conte and help improve a difficult position. Spurs could then look to bring an attacker or creative midfielder to improve their ranks, as they would like to get back in the race for the top four.
