Tottenham join Manchester United in Yassine Bounou chase

Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as the latest club to show interest in Sevilla shot-stopper Yassine Bounou, also a target for Manchester United.

According to a report by Estadio Deportivo, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to invest in Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou as a replacement for current number one Hugo Lloris. The 31-year-old is also a target for Manchester United.

Bounou’s stock has skyrocketed following his heroics for Morocco at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The 31-year-old led his country to a stupendous fourth-placed finish in world football’s biggest stage. After that, Manchester United became the first side to express their interest in the experienced goalkeeper.

Bounou won the Zamora Trophy in La Liga last season and has maintained steady growth over the last few years. There has been uncertainty regarding David de Gea’s imminent future. But the Spaniard has been in tremendous form lately. And according to various reports, the 32-year-old is set to sign on the dotted line, albeit on a lower pay scale.

He could earn in the region of £200,000 in his new deal, providing Manchester United with a way to reduce their current wage bill. The Red Devils brought in Jack Butland from Crystal Palace as a stop-gap fix for the rest of the season. And Den Henderson who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest is also not expected to stay at the club anymore as a second fiddle.

As for Tottenham, their goalkeeping situation has worsened recently, as Hugo Lloris has been quite error-prone this term. In the North London Derby, the former French international made a nasty howler, which cost the home side very badly.

Antonio Conte will thus be looking for some competition for Lloris and has identified Bono as the perfect fit. Lloris extended his stay last January, but that should not be a problem, as this season could be his last in the Premier League. Tottenham have also shown interest in Jordan Pickford. But Bono is an attractive option.

The Sevilla man will not come cheap, as he signed fresh terms in April last year. And the Andalucian giants will likely grind the maximum fee possible from the interested parties. A move in January is possible, but time is running out for Tottenham as it stands.
