Lucas Roman on Barcelona radar

La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly edged closer to signing 18-year-old Argentine wonderkid Lucas Roman from Club Ferro.

According to a report by TyC Sports, Barcelona and Club Ferro Carril Oeste are in advanced talks over a deal for Lucas Roman. The Blaugrana will look to integrate the 18-year-old wonderkid into Rafael Marquez’s group before promoting him to the first team.

Lucas Roman is one of the brightest young prospects in Argentina. A graduate of the Club Ferro Carril Oeste academy, the teenage prodigy has gone from strength to strength in the last few years. In fact, the Argentine whizkid has been so highly rated in his homeland that he had offers to move to Europe as a 16-year-old, as per the report.

But the 18-year-old has remained with Ferro and made his first-team debut in February 2022. The young striker subsequently became a regular for the Argentine outfit, turning out 27 times in the league. Roman also has a decent tally of three goals and one assist to show for his efforts. And it is hardly surprising that the player has emerged on the radar of FC Barcelona.

The Catalan giants are constantly searching for the most promising youngsters across the world. Such an outlook has meant that prodigious prospects like Neymar, Pedri, and others have joined Barcelona over the years. And they remain in the market for more youngsters, with Youssoufa Moukoko being one of their top targets.

But several Premier League clubs are also courting the German wonderkid, with Newcastle United recently emerging as a suitor. So Barcelona might have to identify alternatives for Moukoko. And Lucas Roman has popped up on their radar over a possible move this year.

According to TyC Sports, Barcelona and Club Ferro Carril Oeste are in advanced talks over a deal. The report claims that Barcelona will look to “buy part of the pass and for the Argentine club to have a percentage left, since his contract ends in December 2023.”

Barcelona will integrate Roman into Rafael Marquez’s squad if the deal goes through. And they intend to bring him up to the first team in due course, suggesting he might be Robert Lewandowski’s potential long-term successor. It will be interesting to see if the deal goes through and if the 18-year-old Argentine wonderkid stamps his authority at FC Barcelona.
