Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing 24-year-old Dutch midfielder Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta.
According to a report from Tutto Atalanta, Liverpool have registered their interest in signing 24-year-old Dutch midfielder Teun Koopmeiners. And they have established contacts with the player’s entourage regarding a potential move.
However, the Italian outfit are not prepared to let the player leave in January. So Liverpool will have to wait until the summer transfer window to sign the 24-year-old defensive midfielder, who recently emerged on their radar.
Liverpool are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements, and Koopmeiners could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition. The Dutch midfielder has been in fine form for Atalanta this season, chipping in with five goals and two assists despite playing as a defensive midfielder.
He is versatile enough to operate as an advanced central midfielder as well. And it remains to be seen whether Liverpool can agree on a fee with Atalanta for the player in the coming months. The 24-year-old could be the ideal partner for Thiago Alcantara at the heart of Liverpool’s midfield.
The Reds have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent months, with the likes of Moises Caicedo, Jude Bellingham, Enzo Fernandez and Sofyan Amrabat thought to be on the top of their radar.
It has been a difficult season for Liverpool, and they have struggled to get going because of the dip in form of key players and persistent injury problems. The midfield is particularly struggling this season, with Thiago the only player performing at a high level.
The Reds are fighting for a place in the UEFA Champions League next season. And bringing in a quality midfielder this month could help them immensely as far as the top-four race is concerned. It will be interesting to see if the Reds can bring in the necessary reinforcements in the midfield before the January transfer window closes.
As for Koopmeiners, the opportunity to join Liverpool will be an attractive option for the player and he could be tempted to move to Anfield at the end of the season. Working with a world-class manager like Jurgen Klopp will help the 24-year-old Dutch midfielder improve further and fulfil his potential.
