Liverpool rejected the chance to rope in RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku last summer as they agreed to sign Darwin Nunez from Benfica.

As per the Times, Liverpool decided not to pursue a move for RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku as the Reds went on seal a transfer for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.

Chelsea have now sealed a move for Nkunku as the Premier League giants will complete a deal for a fee to the tune of £65 million and the player will be eligible to don the Blues jersey from next season.

The 25-year-old can operate from a number of attacking positions while he could also be a reliable option from the midfield. The 25-year-old already netted 17 goals this season and Chelsea would hope the player maintains the scoring form.

Liverpool’s attacking outlet hasn’t produced the desired effect since the departure of Sadio Mane. Nunez hasn’t been that prolific and he has been pretty wasteful leaving the Reds ruing their decision.

Klopp’s assistant Pep Lijnders has been the main brainchild behind maximum transfers. Having worked in Portugal the Dutch coach has an enormous knowledge of Portuguese football and advised the club to sign both Luis Diaz and Nunez in consecutive transfer windows.

Luiz has gone on to establish his authority at Anfield but Nunez hasn’t done enough to justify his price tag. Lijnders also worked behind the scenes tirelessly to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven and it remains to be seen how this move pans out.

Nkunku’s versatility is one aspect that makes him a pretty unique proposition and Chelsea would be getting a good deal if the player can replicate what he has been doing for the past few seasons.

However, Chelsea haven’t been lucky with big money transfers recently as the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and most recently Romelu Lukaku haven’t really fared well at the club and Nkunku would have the burden following his arrival to the Premier League.

It could have been a win-win situation for Liverpool but their loss could be Chelsea’s gain. Both the teams haven’t had much luck in their recent matches and they need to concentrate more on the pitch.
