Liverpool are reportedly interested in Portuguese midfielder Matheus Nunes, valued at £44 million by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Matheus Nunes joined Wolverhampton Wanderers at the start of the season, and Liverpool made a promise to him that they would bid for him in the upcoming windows. It seems that the Reds could now return with an offer to fulfil their commitment according to Daily Telegraph.
The 24-year-old midfielder has done quite well in the Premier League so far, and he could prove to be a quality long-term addition to Liverpool. The Reds are in desperate need of central midfielders, and the Portuguese international could prove to be a smart acquisition.
Nunes is well-settled in the Premier League, and he has impressed with his performances for Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Premier League side paid a fee of around £38 million for the midfielder at the start of the season. And it remains to be seen whether Liverpool can negotiate a reasonable price for the player.
Apparently, Liverpool would need to pay around £44 million. Any transfer is likely to go through at the end of the season. But it will be interesting to see if Liverpool can secure an agreement with Wolves this month.
Nunes is likely to be tempted to join a big club at the end of the season, and the opportunity to move to Liverpool could prove difficult to turn down. The Reds followed him for months before his move to Wolves. And it seems that the Portuguese international could finally be heading to Anfield in the near future.
Liverpool will have to replace players like Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and James Milner at the end of the season. All three players will be free agents in the summer, and the Reds have not managed to renew their contracts.
It is fair to assume that Nunes won’t be the only midfielder Liverpool will try to sign at the end of the season. The Reds have been linked with the likes of Jude Bellingham and Sofyan Amrabat as well.
Apparently, Liverpool were keeping tabs on the Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez as well. But the player is now set to join Premier League rivals Chelsea instead. As for Nunes, it will be interesting to see if the Merseyside outfit shell out £44 million to sign the Portuguese international.
