Chelsea in talks to sign Benoit Badiashile

Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing AS Monaco defensive sensation Benoit Badiashile in a deal worth €35 million.

Benoit Badiashile is highly rated in French football. And a report from The Athletic claims that Chelsea are hoping to sign the 21-year-old defender in the coming weeks. They have already initiated talks regarding a potential €35 million move.

The Blues have been following the French defensive sensation for a while now, and they are expected to make a move for him soon. It is no secret that Chelsea will have to bring in defensive reinforcements. And Badiashile could prove to be a superb, long-term investment for them.

The Frenchman has been a key player for AS Monaco this season. And he is likely to be tempted to move to Stamford Bridge in the near future. The French defensive sensation has also emerged on the radar of Newcastle United.

Chelsea will have to replace their veteran defenders in the coming seasons and need to bring in a number of young defenders. The Blues signed Wesley Fofana from Leicester City at the start of the season. And Badiashile could form a quality partnership at the heart of Chelsea’s defence, with his compatriot in the years to come.

The report from The Athletic claims that the defender is likely to cost €35 million. And a club with Chelsea’s resources should be able to afford that. Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly wants to put together a talented young squad, and it makes sense that he is looking to sign a promising young defender like Badiashile.

The Blues have been linked with the RB Leipzig centre-half Josko Gvardiol as well. The Croatian international was one of the best defenders at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and is making waves in the Bundesliga with his performances.

Chelsea have been vulnerable at the back this season and will need to address the defensive problems to challenge for trophies. Badiashile has the ability to develop into a quality Premier League defender. And it will be interesting to see if Graham Potter can help him fulfil his potential.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion boss has an impressive track record of improving young players. So the 21-year-old will be hoping to continue his development with regular football at Stamford Bridge should the €35 million move go through.
