Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing in Chicago fire striker Jhon Duran, a target for Liverpool and Manchester United.
According to a report from Record, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are keen on signing 19-year-old Colombian striker Jhon Duran in the upcoming windows. The Chicago Fire ace is also a target for Portuguese giants Benfica.
It is no secret that Chelsea will need to improve their attacking department soon. And Duran could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition for them. The 19-year-old has been in fine form for MLS club Chicago Fire this season, and he has eight goals and six assists to his name across all competitions.
The South American striker has the potential to develop into a top-class forward, and Chelsea could certainly use someone like him after Armando Broja suffered an ACL injury recently. The player has been ruled out for several months. Chelsea were already lacking in reliable goalscorers, and the injury to the young striker has left them short of options upfront.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the only recognised striker at Chelsea right now, and the former Arsenal captain has struggled to hit top form since joining the club from Barcelona. Chelsea will need to bring in a recognised goalscorer in the January transfer window if he wants to finish the second half of the campaign strongly and finish in the Champions League places.
While there is no guarantee that Duran would hit the ground running and improve Chelsea immediately, he remains a prodigious talent with the capability of succeeding in English football.
The opportunity to move to Stamford Bridge would be a major step up in the player’s career and he is likely to be tempted if there is a concrete offer on the table. But the 19-year-old South American striker is also a target for Liverpool and Manchester United.
Liverpool could use some depth in the attacking areas, especially with Luis Diaz out injured. The Colombian international is ruled out until March, and the Reds could look to bring in his compatriot. Apart from his ability to play a centre forward, Duran has the pace and the flair to operate in the wide areas as well. His versatility could be an added bonus for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool.
Finally, Manchester United need to bring in someone to replace Cristiano Ronaldo after terminating the 37-year-old’s contract prior to the World Cup. The 19-year-old Colombian seems like the ideal long-term investment. And it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils can secure his signature. Benfica will also compete with Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United for Duran.
