Serie A giants AS Roma are reportedly keen on signing Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Luka Modric is the subject of interest from AS Roma. The Serie A giants want to sign the Real Madrid midfield maestro in the summer transfer window. But the veteran Croat might sign a new contract with Los Blancos.

Luka Modric has come a long way since widespread media declared him the worst signing in La Liga. A decade since joining Real Madrid, the 37-year-old is an all-time great for the Spanish club. And he will go down in history as one of the best midfielders ever to have played the game.

Modric has turned out over 450 times thus far for Real Madrid, chipping in with 36 goals and 74 assists. And the veteran Croat remains among the elite players in the world despite his advancing years. But the player is in the final year of his Real Madrid contract, with the situation capturing the attention of AS Roma.

Jose Mourinho wants to bolster his midfield options in the summer transfer window. And it is not hard to see why the AS Roma manager wants to beef up the department, considering the Serie A club’s inconsistencies this season. That said, the struggles for the Giallorossi can also be attributed to several fitness issues.

Players like Georginio Wijnaldum, Ebrima Darboe, and Bryan Cristante are on the sidelines. In addition, Lorenzo Pellegrini’s future remains up in the air amid links with Chelsea. So AS Roma might have to delve into the market for a midfield reinforcement. And Modric has emerged as a viable target.

But signing the Real Madrid midfield maestro will not be straightforward, with Los Blancos keen on keeping him at the Santiago Bernabeu. Nonetheless, Jose Mourinho has asked the Serie A giants to approach Real Madrid over a move for the 37-year-old.

Meanwhile, the veteran Croat is not the only Real Madrid midfielder on AS Roma’s radar, with the Giallorossi also interested in Nacho. It will be interesting to see if both the Real Madrid players reunite at Stadio Olimpico next year.
