Liverpool lose Konrad Laimer race

Liverpool have been linked with a move for RB Leipzig defensive midfielder Konrad Laimer, who is set to join Bayern Munich.

According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool have been beaten by German champions Bayern Munich in the race to sign Konrad Laimer.

The 25-year-old defensive midfielder will be out of contract at the end of the season. And Bayern Munich have agreed on a deal to sign him on a free transfer. Liverpool were hoping to bring the Austrian international in as a free agent, and it will be interesting to see if they decide to move on to other alternatives now.

It is no secret that Liverpool will have to add more quality and depth to their midfield unit. And bringing in a quality defensive midfielder should be a top priority for them. Brazilian international Fabinho has not been at his best and could benefit from more competition.

Laimer has proven himself in the Bundesliga in recent seasons. And he should prove to be a quality acquisition for German champions Bayern Munich, especially on a free transfer.

He is well-settled in the Bundesliga, and he could make an immediate impact at the Bavarian club. Bayern Munich are undoubtedly one of the biggest clubs in the world, and it is hardly a surprise that the player has chosen to join them over Liverpool.

The Reds have been formidable under Klopp in recent seasons. But they are having a mediocre campaign thus far. And there is a good chance they could miss out on UEFA Champions League football. Players like Laimer will want guaranteed European football, and Bayern Munich can provide him with that platform.

Furthermore, joining the Bavarian club would mean that Laimer can stay in his comfort zone and continue to shine in German football. Meanwhile, Liverpool are expected to spend heavily on their midfield in the upcoming windows. They have been linked with players like Enzo Fernandez and Jude Bellingham.

Both players are expected to cost a premium, and it will be interesting to see if Liverpool can afford them without selling a key player.
