Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in signing Ferland Mendy from Real Madrid next year.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Ferland Mendy is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain over a move next year. Real Madrid might be open to cashing in on the French defender at the end of the season.
Ferland Mendy joined Real Madrid from Lyon in July 2019 and took no time to usurp Marcelo. The 27-year-old was in his elements in his first two seasons with Los Blancos, becoming a pivotal figure for the Spanish club. But his performance levels have dipped since a major injury ahead of the 2021/22 season.
The French defender has featured regularly for Real Madrid this season, turning out 17 times while chipping in with one assist. But Mendy faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu amid his inconsistent performances. And such a situation has captured the attention of French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG signed Nuno Mendes permanently from Sporting CP in the summer transfer window. So it is unclear why the reigning Ligue 1 champions want to bring in another left-back next year. But Les Parisiens will likely sell Layvin Kurzawa permanently when his loan deal with Fulham expires at the end of the season.
In addition, Juan Bernat has blown hot and cold at Parc des Princes since returning from an injury. And with Nuno Mendes currently recovering from a long-term issue, PSG will need an alternative if the Portuguese international does not rediscover his best levels. Mendy might thus be a viable target for the French giants.
With Real Madrid reportedly considering selling the 27-year-old next year, PSG might have a handy chance of signing him. But the frosty relations between Real Madrid and PSG might scupper a potential move. And Nasser Al-Khelaifi does not want to negotiate with Florentino Perez for the Frenchman.
So it will be interesting to see whether PSG can prise the left-back away from Real Madrid next year. Meanwhile, with Real Madrid keen on signing Josko Gvardiol, Mendy’s potential departure might not hurt. For now, the 27-year-old faces an uncertain future at the Bernabeu.
