Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Spanish full-back Pedro Porro from Sporting CP next year.
According to a report by Correio da Manha, as relayed by Sport Witness, Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to formalise an offer for Pedro Porro. The highly-rated Spanish full-back has a release clause worth €45 million in his deal with Sporting CP.
The player has been linked with Barcelona as well. Meanwhile, it is no secret that Antonio Conte needs to sign a quality full-back, especially with the likes of Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty struggling to hit top form this season.
Tottenham signed Djed Spence from Middlesbrough during the summer transfer window. But the youngster has not managed to force his way into Conte’s first-team plans. Recent reports have also claimed that Tottenham could loan Spence out in January.
In this situation, the north London club will need to invest in a quality fullback, and it seems that they have identified Pedro as a potential target. The 23-year-old has been outstanding since moving to Sporting CP, and he could be a quality long-term acquisition for Tottenham.
Antonio Conte’s system is hugely dependent on attacking full-backs, and Porro could make a huge impact on the Tottenham side. The Spanish full-back is quite impressive going forward and he has chipped in with eight assists across all competitions for Sporting this season.
There is no doubt that he would be an upgrade on the likes of Royal, Doherty and Spence. The player reportedly has a release clause of around €45 million. And the fact that Tottenham are willing to bid around that amount should help them get the deal over the line. While the asking price seems steep right now, Porro has the potential to justify the outlay in the long run.
Tottenham have an impressive squad, and if they can bring in a couple of intelligent additions in the upcoming windows, there is no reason why they cannot challenge clubs like Manchester City for the Premier League title.
A move to the Premier League would be a major step up in Pedro Porro’s career, and he could develop further under the tutelage of a world-class coach like Antonio Conte. Apart from signing a quality full-back, Tottenham should look to bring in a reliable central defender and an attacking midfielder as well in the upcoming windows.
