Chelsea are still interested in Romeo Lavia, as the Southampton star remains in Todd Boehly’s plan for their exciting build-up.
According to Give Me Sport, Chelsea remains interested in Romeo Lavia and could make yet another attempt to bring the Southampton star to Stamford Bridge. The former Man City starlet has produced high-quality performances and piqued Todd Boehly’s interest in the midfielder.
Romeo Lavia has yet to make a mark on the Premier League fully but has already produced a few notable performances which have led to some big teams retaining an interest. The 18-year-old Premier League midfielder, who joined Southampton in the summer, is the subject of interest from Chelsea.
The Blues tried to sign him in the summer and were willing to pay around £50 million. They decided on an approach despite Lavia only joining Southampton in the same window from Man City, who also happens to hold a £40 million buyback clause.
Under their new ownership of Todd Boehly, Chelsea have earmarked many players, including Lavia, to become future stars. The Blues may consider the 18-year-old Premier League midfielder as a long-term successor to N’Golo Kante, who could depart when the season ends.
While Southampton has repeatedly rubbished the links to Chelsea, the growing links in the media suggest the interest is genuine. Whether the Blues make an offer in the winter window remains the question, but they might end up approaching in the summer.
The Blues and their owner Todd Boehly have already brought in Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella, players that could form a great future team. Chelsea are also exploring ways to sign Christopher Nkunku and Rafael Leao into their attacking setup, and the likes of Lavia would improve their midfield.
Southampton signed the 18-year-old midfielder on a long-term contract, and if Lavia continues to perform admirably until the season ends, the price tag may have a different feel. For now, Chelsea are reportedly willing to spend around £50 million, although the price tag may increase substantially.
Lavia is surely a good signing for the future, but Chelsea’s chances will depend on whether Man City exercise the right to buy him back at the set price.
