Barcelona plot Raphael Guerreiro move

Catalan giants Barcelona are reportedly considering signing 28-year-old Portuguese international Raphael Guerreiro in a Bosman move.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Raphael Guerreiro is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are plotting a Bosman move for the 28-year-old Borussia Dortmund left-back heading into the 2023 summer transfer window.

Raphael Guerreiro has been one of the best left-backs in the Bundesliga since joining Borussia Dortmund in July 2016. A quintessential modern-day full-back, the Portuguese international has been a pivotal figure for the Black and Yellows. And he is currently in Qatar, representing his nation at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 28-year-old is enjoying a solid 2022/23 season, chipping in with three goals and three assists in 18 appearances. And he was recently on fire as Portugal dismantled Switzerland in the Round of 16 at the World Cup. Meanwhile, Guerreiro’s contract situation has left Dortmund in a spot of bother. And such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona.

Barcelona signed a left-back in the summer transfer window, with Marcos Alonso settling down at Spotify Camp Nou. But the Spaniard’s versatility means he is also an option for the centre-back role. In addition, the former Chelsea defender is on the wrong side of 30 and only a short-term solution.

At the same time, Jordi Alba’s future is hanging by a thread, with Barcelona set for crunch talks with the veteran. And with the Spanish international likely to depart from Camp Nou next summer, Barcelona will need to invest in a left-back. Guerreiro has thus emerged as a viable target for the Blaugrana.

The 28-year-old Portuguese international will unlikely sign a new contract with Dortmund. And his impending status as a free agent makes him an attractive option for Barcelona amid the long-dragging financial woes. So Guerreiro could well arrive at Camp Nou in a Bosman move next year.

But the Borussia Dortmund defender is not the only left-back on Barcelona’s radar. Players like Alejandro Grimaldo and Luke Shaw are also on the Catalan club’s shortlist. And it will be interesting to see who becomes the top target for Barcelona heading into the 2023 summer transfer window.
