Manchester United make Cody Gakpo their number one January target

Manchester United have made PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo their number-one target in the January transfer window.

According to Foot Mercato, Manchester United will use all their possible resources to get a deal done for Cody Gakpo in January. The Dutch forward has taken everyone by surprise with his stellar form this time.

Cody Gakpo arrived at the World Cup as one of the players to be watched and has continued his attacking traits as he has already been involved in three goals in two matches for the Netherlands.

The Oranje will need him to stick to his current form as they will need him very profusely if they are to march very deep in the tournament. Manchester United were linked with Gakpo in the summer, but PSV’s reluctance to sell forced them to back out from a possible move.

They went on to bring in Antony from Ajax, but Erik ten Hag is pretty stressed given the current disjointed condition of his attacking lineup. Except for Marcus Rashford, no other forwards have managed to hold that consistency, and the Manchester United manager has already demanded a forward in the winter.

Gakpo’s blistering form has further skyrocketed his price and he will be one of the most sought-after players in the transfer market. PSV are in urgent need of funds and they will entertain bids in the transfer window.

The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo saved a lot of money for Manchester United, and they could utilise that money to reinvest in their squad. Barcelona have also been digging heels for the player, but the Red Devils remain the frontrunner as it stands.

Leeds United came very close to adding the player to their squad and even readied a private jet for his scheduled arrival. But PSV denied the forward a late move. Manchester United will try to negotiate a lower price as they also have other concerns to address.

A right-back is also a priority, and there will be funds available in January should they manage to offload some of their players. Gakpo will be interested in making the next big stride in his career, and ten Hag has had a good record of developing young players in the recent past.
