Arsenal and Manchester United have got a much-needed boost in their pursuit of Marcus Thuram as Borussia Monchengladbach are ready to cash in on him.
According to a report in 90min, Borussia Monchengladbach will sanction a sale in January for Manchester United and Arsenal target Marcus Thuram if their demands are met.
Marcus Thuram has been courted by a number of clubs as the 25-year-old has been among the goals in the Bundesliga. The French attacker’s excellent form has alerted the potential suitors, and Borussia Monchengladbach are ready to conclude a quick business at the start of the next year.
Thuram arrived from Guingamp for a fee around €12 million. And it is suggested Gladbach would be looking to recoup the entire money for the French attacker from an interested party.
Manchester United recently parted ways with Cristiano Ronaldo as the club decided to terminate his contract. The 37-year-old has turned into a free agent, and the Red Devils now need to replace his goals.
Having already invested more than Manchester United’s allocated budget in the summer, Erik ten Hag is unlikely to be funded with sufficient money. So a €12 million move for Thuram fits the bill perfectly. The French attacker can be deployed anywhere across the front three and can be a definitive option whenever Manchester United struggle to breach the opponent’s defence.
Manchester United’s arch-rival Arsenal are also pondering options to bring in someone like Thuram in January as Mikel Arteta has already reiterated that he does not not have enough players to compete on all fronts.
Despite the reservations, the Gunners have been dominating the Premier League and are five points clear of Manchester City at the top. Barring Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, the Arsenal manager does not have any option for the number nine position. And the introduction of Thuram would be a more welcome effort.
A €12 million move in January should suit both parties as Thuram would be delighted to fulfil his ambition of playing in the Premier League which his father Lillian Thuram did not get to cover in his entire playing career. Thuram is currently participating in the World Cup with France, and a good display on this stage would further enhance his chance to play on English soil.
