Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who they view as a perfect successor to Hugo Lloris.
As per TEAMtalk, Jordan Pickford has emerged as a target for Tottenham Hotspur as they are planning a long-term replacement for their current number one Hugo Lloris. The 28-year-old English international will arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the peak of his powers.
Spurs bought Lloris in 2012 for around £12 million, and that has proved to be one of the steal deals as the 35-year-old has been an ever-present in the goal. The Frenchman has had some wonderful moments for the North Londoners despite not winning silverware with Tottenham.
But this season, he has shown signs of weakness and has crumbled under pressure a number of times, which calls for a change in between the sticks. Lloris only extended his stay at the start of this year, but his persistent mistakes have hurt the team profusely. So Tottenham boss Antonio Conte now wants a fresh new face to lead his side.
Pickford has already hit the pinnacle of his career and is destined for far more greatness. The 28-year-old has been England’s number one and will be travelling with the squad to Qatar if everything remains on the right path.
His contract expires in 2024, and the Toffees are well aware of his intention. The Merseysiders have not discussed a new deal and might be forced to cash in on him next summer.
Lloris is on the verge of completing 450 games for the Tottenham, but his stock has definitely fallen. With France also placing their bets on him, this upcoming World Cup could be a huge moment for the veteran shot-stopper to prove his worth. Apart from Lloris, several other goalkeepers are on Tottenham’s radar.
The TEAMtalk report mentions Robert Sanchez and Illan Meslier as targets for Tottenham. And if Lloris continues to falter, Spurs will soon pursue at least one of the goalkeepers. It will be interesting to see if 28-year-old English international Pickford becomes the top target for Tottenham.
