Liverpool are interested in bringing in PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo who has also been linked with Manchester United.
As per reporter Hans Kraay Jr, Liverpool coach Pep Lijnders is an avid admirer of Cody Gakpo and Liverpool will try to get a deal done for him. Gakpo has emerged as a possible target for a number of suitors and he might be the subject of some intense bids.
Liverpool have had some difficulties this season as the likes of Mohamed Salah haven’t hit the kind of prolific form he has been showing in the last few seasons.
A number of uncharacteristic losses coincided with the injury of Luis Diaz who started the season on a bright note. The Colombian forward got an untimed injury and is currently on the sidelines for a prolonged period.
Gakpo has lit up the Eredivisie with his free goal-scoring form while he has also been helping his teammates in setting up goals. He has already been involved in 30 goal contributions in 23 matches in all competitions and even a certain Erling Haaland cannot match his form.
Gakpo is poised to be the Netherlands’ focal point of attack as the Dutch are expected to do well in the upcoming FIFA World Cup. Gakpo is destined to receive more offers once he returns from his national team duty.
The 23-year-old winger was a Manchester United target in the summer as the Reds were very keen to welcome the player to Old Trafford. But PSV’s reluctance to let go of their asset saw United hijacking a deal for Antony from Ajax in the penultimate days of the summer transfer window.
United’s goal-scoring capability hasn’t been improved this term and they might come back with an improved offer in January. Liverpool will be overhauling their squad and Gakpo remains a priority for the Reds.
PSV are in dire need of funds and an offer in the region of €40 million should serve the cause. Given his current goalscoring rate, he could be a bargain buy if he continues his trait in the Premier League too.
