Cristiano Ronaldo turned down a £130 million offer to play in Saudi Arabia, claims Piers Morgan

Cristiano Ronaldo received a £130 million offer in the summer to ply his trade in Saudi Arabia but remained at Manchester United.

Piers Morgan revealed that United forward Cristiano Ronaldo was the subject of interest from a club in Saudi Arabia and they were prepared to offer him a whopping wage of £130 million per season.

Ronaldo finished as United’s highest scorer last season and United’s failure to finish in the Champions League put a massive dent in his career as the Portuguese had never competed in the Europa League prior in his career.

Champions League has been his vicinity for years and he didn’t digest the demotion to the Champions League. His desire of leaving the club grew pretty high as his agent Jorge Mendes offered the player to a number of sides this summer.

He was ready to reduce his wage to force a move but clubs were reluctant to accept him as he is no more the player who can change the course of the game single-handedly.

He has struggled to cope with United’s high intensity this season and has been frustrated due to his lack of game time. Erik ten Hag left him out of the squad for the Chelsea game after he got to know of Ronaldo’s shocking behaviour during the Tottenham Hotspur clash.

The former Real Madrid defender was seen leaving through the tunnel before the final whistle and also refused to help the team as a substitute. The gaffer decided to deal with the incident with some very strict action and Ronaldo was instructed to train on his own separately from the first team squad.

The 37-year-old will be searching for options in the January transfer window but leaving Europe will not be an option. He still feels he has the quality and confidence to compete at the highest level and will likely join a club playing in the Champions League.

Chelsea have been linked with the player as owner Tedd Boehly wants to make Ronaldo his first marquee signing since completing the takeover. But a deal could be complicated as the Red Devils won’t sanction his sale to a direct rival in the Premier League.
