Chelsea, Manchester United eyeing January move for Milan Skriniar

Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in signing Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar in the January transfer window, and the Slovak could be available for a bargain.

According to a report from Fichajes, Milan Skriniar is in the crosshairs of Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. All three clubs looking to sign the 27-year-old from Serie A giants Inter Milan for a nominal price during the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old defender will be out of contract at the end of the season, and Inter Milan have not been able to agree on an extension with him yet. Skriniar is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in Europe, and he has been a key player for the Serie A giants over the last few seasons.

It is no surprise that the top European clubs are looking to secure his services, especially now that he could be available at a bargain. Inter Milan will not want to lose a player like the 27-year-old on a free transfer. So they could consider selling him permanently in January to recoup some money.

Chelsea signed Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana in the summer transfer window. But they could certainly use another centre-back, especially with Thiago Silva in his twilight years. Skriniar would be an exceptional acquisition, with the Slovak at the peak of his powers. Furthermore, the 27-year-old can play in a back three and will be an ideal fit for the Blues.

Meanwhile, Manchester United need to bring in a quality centre-back as well. The signings of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have worked out well for the Red Devils. But they need to replace the likes of Eric Bailly, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, especially if Maguire and Lindelof look to leave to secure regular game-time.

Martinez and Varane cannot play every single game. So bringing in another quality centre-back should be imperative for Eric ten Hag. It is a similar situation with Paris Saint-Germain, who could use a quality long-term alternative to Sergio Ramos.

All three clubs have the financial resources to sign the 27-year-old in the January transfer window. And it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Chelsea can offer him Champions League football. And that could give them an edge in the transfer chase, especially against Premier League rivals Manchester United who are competing in the UEFA Europa League.
