Chelsea could be interested in signing Harry Kane as new owner Todd Boehly is keen on a marquee signing next summer.
Ben Jacobs on The Football Terrace has suggested Chelsea could be lining up a move for Harry Kane. New owner Todd Boehly intends to bring in a marquee name and might see the Tottenham talisman as a perfect addition.
After the storm of government sanctions around Chelsea and their former owner Roman Abrahmovich calmed, new boss Todd Boehly genuinely came to the fore. The American invested heavily into the squad bringing in crucial stars in the summer window.
Marc Cucurella, Wesley Fofana and Raheem Sterling highlighted their transfer window apart from other essential signings. One area of need for Chelsea was the centre-forward position, and the club tried to sign several options. Eventually, they settled for Pierre-Emerick Auubayemang on deadline day, but the Gabonese international is no long-term option.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Blues are keen on signing Harry Kane. For one, it would be a sensational move considering the rivalry between Chelsea and Tottenham. Secondly, it would be a statement of intent from Chelsea and Kane to highlight their intentions.
Signing Kane will not be easy, despite the striker having only one year on his deal next summer. Manchester City failed after making a string of big-money offers. There are rumours insisting Tottenham could offer him a new contract, but the Englishman has given no indications regarding the same.
Recently Kane commented on his future amid links with Bayern Munich. He has remained coy on his future, although he did not explicitly rule out a move away from Spurs.
Bayern are ready to splash big on acquiring the England captain but may find it hard to convince him. Kane has eyes on Alan Shearer’s all-time scoring record, which could be possible with another Premier League side.
Chelsea are one team that has lofty ambitions, which could be in line with what Kane wants. Boehly intends to bring a marquee signing next year to elevate their project. Kane would be a perfect addition, given his stature in the game.
Any move for Kane will be tricky, considering other big clubs will also be in the hunt. It will also depend on what Chelsea are willing to offer. Irrespective of how many years Kane has left on his Spurs deal, chairman Daniel Levy will look for a huge payout to let their talismanic striker depart.
