La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are preparing a bid to sign 25-year-old Brazilian wide man Caio Henrique from AS Monaco in 2023.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Caio Henrique is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the 2023 summer transfer window. The 25-year-old Brazilian wide man might replace Marcos Alonso in the Catalan club’s squad in the 2023/24 season.

Caio Henrique has found a stable footing in his career since joining AS Monaco from Atletico Madrid nearly two years ago. The 25-year-old has been a pivotal figure for the Ligue 1 outfit, establishing himself as one of the most enterprising full-backs in Europe.

The Brazilian wide man, who can play as a full-back and wide midfielder, has started the 2022/23 season strongly, chipping in with four assists in six Ligue 1 outings. Henrique’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with some of Europe’s most high-profile clubs, including Barcelona, setting their sights on him.

Barcelona had shown interest in Henrique in the summer transfer window before zeroing in on Marcos Alonso as their left-back signing. But Alonso faces an uncertain future at the Spotify Camp Nou as he has only signed a one-year contract with Barcelona, although some reports have claimed that he will likely sign a new deal before the 2022/23 season ends.

But if Alonso does not renew terms with Barcelona, the need to sign a left-back will crop up again as Jordi Alba has fallen down the pecking order at Camp Nou. The veteran Spanish international is showing signs of age catching up with him and is now a bit-part player for Barcelona.

While Alejandro Balde has been impressive in the early days of the 2022/23 season, Xavi Hernandez’s tendency to rotate his troops means he will need another top-notch left-back at his disposal. Several left-backs, including Jose Gaya, have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar, with Henrique also a viable target.

Alejandro Grimaldo is another candidate on Barcelona’s wishlist. But Henrique has the quality to ably replace Alba at the Spotify Camp Nou. So it will be interesting to see if the 25-year-old Brazilian wide man joins Barcelona, who might soon present an offer to AS Monaco for him.
