Chelsea have reportedly been offered the chance to sign wantaway Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo again.
According to a report from The Independent, Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes has offered his client Chelsea again, and it remains to be seen whether the Blues are keen on securing the services of the wantaway Manchester United striker.
The 37-year-old has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford all summer, and it is believed that Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United because of the absence of UEFA Champions League football at the club.
Chelsea will be able to provide him with the opportunity to play in Europe’s premier competition, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops. Ronaldo completed an emotional return to Old Trafford last summer, and although he scored 24 goals across all competitions, Manchester United regressed as a group and missed out on the top four finish.
Ronaldo was unable to help them win a trophy either. The Portuguese international is in the twilight stages of his career, and it is understandable why he does not wish to spend one year of his career at Manchester United when they are very much in a transition phase.
Ronaldo wants to play for teams capable of winning trophies, and Chelsea are certainly better-placed than Manchester United in that regard. However, a move for Ronaldo is likely to be expensive because of his massive wages, and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is willing to sanction such a deal.
The Blues are expected to lose Moroccan playmaker Hakim Ziyech to Ajax before the summer transfer window closes, and they will need to bring in proper reinforcements. While Ronaldo is not a similar player by any stretch of the imagination, the wantaway Manchester United forward could be an integral part of Chelsea’s front three alongside the likes of Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling.
Chelsea are in desperate need of a quality finisher and Cristiano Ronaldo is as good as anyone in that department. The likes of Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku failed to provide a cutting edge in the final third last season, and someone like Ronaldo would be a massive upgrade in that role for Chelssea.
It will be interesting to see whether Chelsea take up the option to sign Ronaldo from Manchester United after previously deciding against pursuing the 37-year-old Portuguese international. Ronaldo has one year left on his current contract at Old Trafford, and it will be interesting to see how much the wantaway Manchester United forward costs this summer.
