La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly in talks with Celta Vigo over a possible late move for 27-year-old Spanish full-back Javi Galan.
According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Javi Galan has become the top target for Barcelona in the final days of the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants have initiated discussions with Celta Vigo over a possible move for the 27-year-old full-back.
Javi Galan has gone from strength to strength since his breakthrough in La Liga with SD Huesca a couple of seasons ago. While Huesca did not survive the relegation scrap, the Spanish defender remained in the top-flight by joining Celta Vigo and continued on his upward trajectory, albeit at the Balaidos.
The 27-year-old full-back has looked decent at the onset of the 2022/23 season, turning out twice on as many matchdays for Celta Vigo. And Galan’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with several La Liga clubs, including Barcelona, showing interest in him.
Barcelona entered the summer transfer window intending to bolster their full-back options, among other positions, to continue the squad overhaul under Xavi Hernandez. Barcelona’s primary targets were Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, but they have barely made any progress while pursuing the Spanish full-backs.
While Azpilicueta has signed a new contract with Chelsea, the Blaugrana recently decided against launching the offensive to sign Alonso. Galan has thus re-emerged on Barcelona’s radar over a late move in the summer transfer window, with reports claiming that they might soon table a bid for the 27-year-old.
According to AS, Barcelona and Celta Vigo are now discussing a move for the Spanish full-back. And with Jordi Alba showing alarming signs of regression, it is hardly surprising that Xavi wants another left-back at his disposal, despite a promising performance by Alejandro Balde against Real Sociedad.
It will be interesting to see how talks progress between Barcelona and Celta Vigo in the coming days as Xavi gets more eager to bolster his squad with a left-back. Galan is now the top target for the Catalan giants, who want to end the summer transfer window strongly.
