Liverpool will compete with Manchester United in the race to sign Moises Caicedo, with the Reds preparing an offer to sign the Ecuadorian midfielder.
Jose Alberto Molestina has claimed on Studio Futbol that Liverpool will provide stiff competition to Manchester United in the race to sign Moises Caicedo. The Reds have readied a bid to sign the Brighton & Hove Albion, with Manchester United already submitting an offer.
Moises Caicedo spent his formative years in his homeland, progressing through the ranks at Indipendiente del Valle before graduating from the Ecuadorian club’s academy. The 20-year-old moved to Europe in the winter transfer window of 2021 by joining Brighton & Hove Albion but had to wait until the second half of the 2021/22 season to establish a foothold at the Amex Stadium.
The Ecuadorian midfielder has turned out 12 times thus far for the Seagulls and has become a mainstay in midfield for the Premier League club. And Caicedo’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with several high-profile clubs in Europe, including Liverpool and Manchester United, setting their sights on him.
Jurgen Klopp has been adamant that Liverpool will not sign any more players in the summer transfer window, even though Thiago Alcantara is recovering from another injury. But with Thiago, Jordan Henderson and James Milner on the wrong side of 30, the Reds need to invest in a long-term midfield solution, bringing Caicedo into the picture.
In addition, Naby Keita’s future has become uncertain in the last few days, which might prompt Liverpool to delve into the market for a midfielder. That is perhaps why Liverpool might soon present an offer to sign Caicedo, but Manchester United will provide stiff competition to their bitter rivals.
The Red Devils are set to finally bolster their midfield this summer when Casemiro arrives from Real Madrid in the coming days. But Manchester United will likely look to sign another midfielder in the last few days of the ongoing transfer window after losing Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic last month.
While Liverpool might soon table a bid to Brighton, Manchester United already submitted an offer to Caicedo, according to the panel discussion on Studio Futbol. The race to sign the 20-year-old is thus heating up. But with Liverpool able to offer UEFA Champions League football, the Reds might feel they have the advantage over Manchester United.
